Better Is What Makes Us Butler

Narrative, Butler University // Creative concepting and copywriting

We believe there’s a better way. We call it the Butler Way.

It’s not easily defined, but you know it when you see it, and when you see it, you want to know more.

Is our way the best way? That’s not for us to say. But it’s ours. It’s driven us to progress from the little school that could, to the nationally-ranked institution that did, to who we are today—the world-class university that does. And we’ve done it all from right here in Indianapolis.

Along the way, we discovered there are no shortcuts in life, that we have to go to great lengths to be better, to do good. So, we’re known for making the extra effort, going the extra mile, and lending an extra pair of hands. And we’re not alone. It’s what makes our campus a pretty extra special place. It’s what makes our students pretty extraordinary people. It’s what drives us to always seek better—better outcomes, a better community, a better Midwest, and a better world.

Because better is what makes us Butler.

For the Bold

Campaign narrative, William & Mary // Creative concepting, copywriting, and narration

Every now and then, someone or something extraordinary comes along that changes everything.

Every now and then is every day at William & Mary.

Founded by kings and queens and forged by revolution, we were an international institution at our onset, and America’s first university.

Our loyal sons and daughters became our nation’s Founding Fathers, university presidents and chancellors, head coaches, titans of industry, entertainment legends, famous fashion designers, and chief NASA scientists.

Well into our fourth century, we refuse to act our age.

And if we glance backward, it’s only to catch a glimpse of where we started. To contemplate how far we’ve come. To gauge how far we still have to go.

Because we won’t live in the shadows of the giants of American history that we helped to shape — and who helped to make us.

We stand on their shoulders, reaching higher, looking further, and leading the way forward.

And not just every now and then, but now and evermore.

Because at William & Mary, we strive to be more than we are, and to do more than we’ve ever done, to be a place where history happens every day, and to be a university for the bold.

Uncommon Good

Campaign narrative, Seattle University // Creative concepting and copywriting
Raised $302 million // Goal $275 million // Most successful campaign in SeattleU history

visit campaign website

Since our founding in 1891, Seattle University has been a force for good in a constantly changing world, treating academics and justice as mutually indispensable and empowering leaders to serve the common good with uncommon purpose.

Today, when humanity is more interconnected than ever before, yet more isolated than it’s ever been, our region and world need Seattle University more than ever—for equipping students with the knowledge, ethical reasoning, and critical thinking skills to lead the charge for positive, lasting change. To do this — to be even better and to do ever greater — we must act in unconventional, unprecedented, and unparalleled ways. We must envision progress where others do not.

Together, we will amplify the good we’re already doing and expand into areas where we can have the broadest and most enduring impact, both on individuals far and wide and institutions large and small: equality for all and access to education for each and every academically successful student; a unique combination of the humanities, science and innovation that educates the whole person and leads to improving the human condition; and an enduring Jesuit mission that’s as future-focused as it is foundational.

Our goal is $275 million. Our time is now, to empower champions for a just, inclusive, and sustainable world.

The need is clear, to lend voice to the voiceless and power to the powerless. The Seattle University community is ready, to effect lasting change, from the mainstream of society to its margins and beyond, to fearlessly build a better future for all.

Entrepreneurial mind.
Humanitarian heart.

Strategy and messaging narrative, Seattle University // Creative concepting

Seattle and the Pacific Northwest have a long and rich history of revolutionizing how we live and work. From indie music and high tech to retail, e-commerce, and aeronautics, Seattle University was there every step of the way, not only helping to set the pace, but historically a step or two ahead of the curve.

That’s because our prime location in the heart of the eclectic Capitol Hill neighborhood, our progressive approach to learning, and our tradition of community-engaged learning help to educate and inspire students, regardless of discipline, to disrupt old and outdated ways of thinking and wasteful ways of living. It’s an entrepreneur’s mind combined with a humanitarian’s heart, and it’s set a standard of excellence inside and outside of the classroom that’s unmatched in higher education.

And despite an academic tradition more than 500 years in the making, we’re just getting started.

Your Research Matters

Brand narrative, Notre Dame Graduate School // Creative concepting and copywriting

Out there, in the real world, your research matters.

It matters to real people, facing real situations, and real problems. Incredibly complex problems both big and endearingly small, old and radically new, near and excruciatingly far, far away.

You might not feel it when you are heads-down in a quiet library surrounded by ancient texts, or when huddled together in a busy lab surrounded by state-of-the-art equipment, but research is how you reach out and touch communities large and small, far and wide, close to home (and to your heart) and across the globe. You might not know it in those moments, but your research is how you rewrite history and re-envision a future, impacting people you have never met and people you may never meet.

And that’s okay. It’s how you make your voice heard and your impact felt, today and for all the tomorrows to come. It’s how you change the world in ways unimaginable to your mentors and maybe even yourself. You have the power, when you combine real passion with true purpose, and when your field of study becomes your field of expertise.

It’s work. Hard work. And then, even harder work. But it is within you, all of this power to do good out there. The graduate school will nurture it, inspire you to bring it out, and empower you to make it real.

Because out there, in the real world, your research matters. It matters, too, right here in our corner of it. And because your research matters, you matter. We’ll show you just how much.

Never Settle

Academic plan narrative, University of Arizona // Creative concepting, copywriting, and naming

We have never settled. Never will. Because we’re thinkers and doers, always moving forward, upwards. We collaborate across disciplines and engage in novel partnerships with business and government to innovate. To make the unknown known. We’re a land-grant university that’s transforming science fiction into scientific fact, rising from the sands of the Sonoran Desert in 1885 to develop the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft that will collect dust samples from a near-Earth asteroid in 2020. For those who demand a pioneering approach to teaching, research, and service, we say: Never Settle.

The Power of Doing

Campaign narrative, Cal Poly // Creative concepting, copywriting, and naming
Raised $832 million // Goal $700 million
Most successful campaign in both Cal Poly and CSU history

Learn by Doing was born here and will thrive here, always.

Cal Poly was founded on the philosophy and the practice of Learn by Doing. More than ever, it is essential to the lives of our students, to the success of our alumni and to the impact each has had and will have on California and the world.

The Power of Doing is more than a campaign. It’s both a promise made long ago and a pledge to a future far from now. today, it falls upon us to power Learn by Doing forward — to honor a Cal Poly that’s transformative to its students, to power an alma mater that engenders pride among its alumni and to power a university that learns and leads by doing even more.

This is our responsibility. This is our power.

Ready Day One

Brand narrative, Cal Poly // Creative concepting and copywriting

Cal Poly was founded as a comprehensive polytechnic university that combined a rigorous education—one that enabled students to imagine a better future for themselves— and real-world experiences that both informed and inspired them to create it.

Today, while we continue to put our collective heads and hands to work on addressing the problems of the day, those both infinitely large and infinitesimally small, we also work relentlessly on creating the knowledge and advancing the systems and technologies to help solve the challenges of tomorrow. We call our philosophy and the practice of it: Learn by Doing. And more than a century in, it defines us still, even as generation after generation of students redefine it, time and time again.

This steadfast commitment to academic excellence and education in action produce students who are ready day one to have an immediate, positive, and lasting impact in their careers and in communities across California and the world.

Ready. Willing. Honorable.

Brand narrative, Wake Forest School of Business // Creative concepting and copywriting

B-school is broken. To change how business is done requires a radical new approach to how business students are taught. Because it’s about more than what a leader knows in their head. It’s also about what they know in their heart. It’s about aligning the two. It’s about having the right stuff and doing the right thing. It’s about a foundation built on knowledge and skill, of course. But it’s also about developing grit and fostering character — character with a capital “C.” Can it be done? We’re doing it.

At Wake Forest University, we’ve rebuilt our business school from the ground up. To build a better business student from the inside out. More than a new school of business, we’ve built a new school for business. A new school of thought and action, one that immerses students in a culture that molds them into ethical leaders. The students who come here? They don’t enroll. They enlist. They don’t just go to class. They get to work. And when they graduate, they aren’t just smarter than they were. They’re better than they ever thought they could be: Principled, performance-ready professionals who on day one of their job are ready, willing, and honorable.

Here, They Become

Brand narrative, Miami Valley School // Creative concepting and copywriting

Every student is unique. So why are so many schools exactly the same?

One isn’t.

At The Miami Valley School, we’re independent in our teaching and learning and in our thinking and doing. For 50 years, our students have enjoyed the freedom to explore their world in a community that encourages them to discover how to express themselves in it.

Although we adhere to a demanding scholarship built on a foundation of integrity and grit, teachers here do more than prepare students to score well on a standardized test someday. They empower students to live life to the fullest every day. To discover their true passion and purpose, and then to responsibly pursue it with emotional and intellectual rigor.

It’s why students don’t just come to The Miami Valley School. Here, they become.
